String of Pearls

String of Pearls

STRING OF PEARLS is a female vocal trio that performs modern vocal jazz and vintage "girl group" music with swing, style, and musical excellence.  Susan Halloran, Jeanne O'Connor, and Holli Ross bring a fresh sound and a new face to vocal harmony music from the 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond. The trio breathes new life into the great music of groups like the Boswell Sisters, Andrews Sisters, Mills Brothers, Count Basie, and Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross.. Meanwhile, String of Pearls performs a wide variety of original arrangements that draw on the traditions of bebop, Brazilian music, and American pop.

STRING OF PEARLS began in the mid-1980s, when a musical director brought these talented ladies together for a special show of nostalgia material. The singers decided to stay together and expand their repertoire of jazz, cabaret and pop material. String of Pearls began appearing at clubs, cabarets, and concert halls throughout the metropolitan area and beyond. Since then, this exceptional group has appeared in the JVC Jazz Festival, at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, Town Hall, the Latin Quarter, The Manhattan Center, The Battleship Intrepid and The Kennedy Center.

Holli, Sue and Jeanne performed in May 2001 at the renowned Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of its "Women in Jazz Festival."They have recently performed at New York's annual Cabaret convention, the Mohonk Jazz Festival, the Millbrook Jazz Festival and the famous "Lyrics and Lyricists" program at Manhattan's 92nd st Y Cultural Center.   The singers also tour abroad, most recently  touring Japan and before that, a sold-out nightclub engagement in Munich, Germany. The group has shared a bill with the McGuire Sisters, and has sung with leading big bands such as Vince Giordano‚Äôs Nighthawks and Peter Duchin.
